Lo spagnolo della Ducati firma la pole position sul circuito di Termas de Rio Hondo, con il tempo record per la pista di 1’36″917. È la prima doppietta di pole in due GP consecutivi per lui dopo 6 anni. Alle sue spalle il fratello Alex (a 246 millesimi), su Ducati Gresini Racing, e il francese Zarco (a 0.288 secondi), su Honda. Pecco Bagnaia, che aveva evitato per un soffio il Q1, partirà quarto (a 351 millesimi da Marquez), in seconda fila. Con lui Acosta (Ktm), quinto, e Di Giannantonio (Ducati VR46), sesto. Alle 19 prevista la gara Sprint.
