Il tennista romano supera infatti per 6-4 6-4 il belga Zizou Bergs, giustiziere un po’ a sorpresa nel turno precedente del russo Andrey Rublev. Berrettini rispetta il pronostico della viglia, ma lo fa a fronte della pressione del favorito alle prese con una serie di ‘prime volte’ per lui importanti. Il successo vale infatti a Berrettini la prima volta negli ottavi di finale del torneo di Miami. Ma non solo. Berrettini torna agli ottavi di finale di un Masters 1000 per la prima volta dopo 2 anni, quando lo fece a Monte Carlo 2023. E, più nel dettaglio, Matteo non centrava gli ottavi di finale di ‘un 1000’ sul cemento da Indian Wells 2022.
